JL: So Casey, you’ve been meditating with MeditationWorks for 12 weeks now. Any changes?
CW: Absolutely! There are times I will now recognize stress and take a moment to relax and recalibrate. It’s mostly giving myself that gift of a few breaths in a stressful situation and moving on with a clear mind from there. So yes, recognition of stress with a quick strategy to take with me.
JL: Is once a week enough?
CW: The weekly organized structure is a great reminder. I do find myself taking a moment and breathing throughout the week, as well as using your mindful tips. If only I were a little more disciplined to practice at home!
JL: It’s really hard for most of us to meditate at home!
CW: I know right? But I can use the techniques. Like when trying to sleep, the mindful breathing and a few body scans really help me unwind at the end of my day.
JL: What a gift you’re giving yourself! Think of this stress management skill in a cumulative way over the years of your life.
CW: It’s nuts! My wife Lucia… she is one of the most carefree people you will ever meet. She makes others feel so comfortable and calm. I’d like to be more of that. So it’s been great to be able to embrace that type of calmness.
JL: Do you feel MeditationWorks is having an impact on EDSI?
CW: Yes. I see a ton of excitement for the program. It’s great to see the number of people who are enthusiastically attending on a regular basis. People are getting enough out of the meditation sessions to step out of their work zone on a weekly basis in a very busy environment. So interest is very very high. We have a positive work environment. There is not a ton of conflict here, but I’ve been surprised by some of the people here who attend. I never would have thought they would try it, but three months and they are really into it, and I’m grateful they now have these (stress reduction) strategies available to them!
We’re excited too, and grateful for meditators like Casey. Each month there are more of them in the MeditationWorks mobile unit, building the awareness to catch themselves stressing out and using our strategies to promote relaxation. We can all us a little more of “that”!
Until we meet again…
