Amy had trouble sleeping. Night after night, her husband’s snoring would jolt her awake, and often, there was no going back to sleep no matter how tired she was. She ended up doing what many of us do, leaving the bed exhausted and frustrated to attempt sleep uncomfortably and alone on the couch.
After a long 90-plus degree Detroit summer day driving the mobile unit and running meditation sessions, MeditationWorks founder Jake Leider returned home to a power outage. Going on hour 18, he headed to Starbucks with his laptop to continue his workday, inputting information and answering emails. One was from Amy.
Her company, LSG Insurance Partners, offers six weekly MeditationWorks sessions for their employees, and Amy, along with about 44 others, have been attending regularly. The officers of this company care about their employees and they know it. They offer them a ten-minute relaxation break twice a week in MeditationWorks mobile unit. Yesterday Amy listened quietly as her co-workers told tales of mindful victories, and when she got home, sent hers to Jake.
Using the skills she practices in MeditationWorks sessions, she has mastered the ability to overcome a significant sleep distraction.
“I noticed I am using the same (focus) technique to not be angry when I have trouble falling asleep over hubby’s snoring one or more times during the night. Instead of getting upset and leaving the room, I switch my attention between the fan and his sounds and my breathing. As a result, my FitBit sleep statistics have dramatically improved because I am able to fall back asleep without pacing around the house angry. Thinking back over the past few weeks, I realized I hadn’t had to sleep the rest of the night on the couch even once since using this mindfulness technique!”
The email concluded with gratitude:
“Thanks for providing this wonderful time to practice meditation on a regular basis in a controlled environment.”
We at MeditationWorks thank Amy, her co-workers, and the officers of LSG Insurance Partners for bringing mindfulness in a mobile unit to their company and applaud their commitment to a consistent meditation practice.
Amy, thank you for sharing your experience with us and making our day! May you always wake up rested and refreshed, in the comfort of your bed with your husband by your side!
