How the Idea for Mobile Meditation was Executed: Meditation Worked!
It is a welcome company policy at MeditationWorks that all employees have an active meditation practice. Not only does it create a happier, healthier work force, but it also confirms the effectiveness of what MeditationWorks provides; a brief, creative, and consistent meditation practice for stressed-out employees everywhere. We know MeditationWorks works, because it works for us and for our customers.
Jake Leider, founder and CEO, knew MeditationWorks would work. Why? Because his own attempts at meditation in home and work environments had failed.
“My cell would vibrate. The dog was in my face. I’d want something to eat. I just couldn’t sit still. And work was worse. I tried to meditate at my desk or in an empty conference room. Impossible!”
Joanne Leider RN, MeditationWorks medical director, never doubted that MeditationWorks would work. “I’ve been listening to yoga teachers beg us to meditate for 16 years now. I used to wonder how on earth anyone could get people to meditate. I knew that few would be willing to drive to a meditation center. I was dealing with Jake’s struggles, as well as my own, to commit to a consistent meditation practice at home or work. Then Jake went to a sold-out food truck rally and it came to us; the meditation room needs to come to us.”
While the idea of creating a “Food Truck for Your Brain” was exciting, the execution was a little scary. “I knew meditation was helping me, and that it would do the same for our customers,” says Jake. “I was focusing better, and handling issues with less stress. People began to say things to me I’ve never heard before, like ‘You’re so calm,’ and ‘I wish I was able to keep it together the way you do.’ Building this company puts more pressure on me than anything I’ve ever done before, but I’ve handled the stress so much better; eating healthier, exercising more, and finally quit biting my nails!”
Christian is MeditationWorks first employee. This novice meditator has found his new mindfulness invaluable while dealing with a significant source of stress for him: grocery shopping.
“As for the trips to Costco, you will likely see Christian waiting calmly in line on those busy Saturdays. “I get less frustrated now. I kind of stand there and look around feeling pretty relaxed. The impatient, bored me just doesn’t come out much anymore while I’m there.”
Jake has succeeded by diving into crafting the world’s first mobile meditation unit. It was definitely not easy as he had to learn how to power it, heat it, cool it, park it, drive it, maintain it, and develop a business plan that could bring it all to life. He had to find a great teacher, Justin Barnes, who could help him create a brief, engaging, and effective meditation program. Ultimately, he had to fill it with people who would benefit from it. You, our MeditationWorks customers.
Until we meet again…
