The snow began at midnight and was still coming down hard at 8 am with temps around 25 degrees. Rush hour traffic was predictably snarled. Slush filled the streets and clogged the crosswalks. However the MeditationWorks mobile unit was warm, quiet, and FULL!
“It took me an hour and a half to drive to work today,” said Joel as he settled in for a ten-minute session. “The difference since I began meditating is night and day. I go with the flow of traffic instead of darting in and out of lanes. It’s almost as relaxing as the meditation now!”
Commuting is a major source of stress for workers everywhere, so it’s no surprise that driving is the first activity meditators notice a change in when they begin our program. After just a few sessions, the brain begins to sense stress, sending signals to relax tense shoulders and hands, deepen the breath, and ultimately trigger the relaxation response. The results? Employees arriving to work in a calmer state of mind, and in one piece!
“I used to get to work a frazzled mess. Now I relax while I drive and get twice as much done before my 9:30 break,” said Kim. “It has to be the meditation.”
Its simple, but profound changes like these that keep our meditators coming back weekly for their sessions. They don’t mind if it’s zero degrees, if there’s a foot of snow on the sidewalk, or even if it took them an extra hour to get to work. They know that the ten minutes they spend in the MeditationWorks mobile unit is not only an investment in the rest of the day, but the rest of their lives.
Until we meet again…
