“In the face of chaos sometimes the best thing you can do is simply
not contribute to it.”
These are words spoken by my yoga teacher the morning of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. I jotted them down on a Post-it note and stuck it onto my dashboard where it remained for a long time. These mindful words are my reminder, helping me navigate situations I can’t control with a little more thought and balance.
How does sitting in MeditationWorks’ mobile unit for a few minutes during the workday help us deal with tragedy and violence? Well, meditation strengthens the area of our brain that understands ourselves and other people. Tolerating differences and imperfections becomes more automatic, and we view the world and everyone in it with a little more compassion and acceptance.
We created MeditationWorks for people who are curious about the practice of meditation but can’t get to a yoga class or meditation center. For people who are overwhelmed by distraction in their homes or workplace when they try to meditate. For them, and for anyone who can use a little rest and stress reduction, we bring a wonderful teacher in a distraction-free rolling relaxation room right to their door.
So for the person who is self-conscious, frustrated, socially challenged, depressed, or simply stressed-out, meditation can make everything they face a little better. Meditating brains worry less and generate more positive thoughts than non-meditating brains, promoting s happier, healthier life not just for ourselves, but for all who come in contact with us.
For anyone dealing with troubled family members or co-workers (or both!), meditating fosters compassion, understanding and empathy, which in turn eases them of their struggles. People who meditate are more likely to perform random acts of kindness, sharing their mindfulness with family, friends and even strangers.
We are not saying that meditation is the solution to all the world’s problems. However, we do know that people who meditate regularly have an improved ability to deal with stress in a more accepting, sensible, thoughtful manner. We can all use a little more peace, love, and understanding in our daily lives!
If your fortunate enough to have employers who have brought MeditationWorks to your offices for you, please take advantage of it! If not, call us for a free test drive and see how simple and powerful meditation sessions in our mobile unit can be.
Until we meet again…
