It’s not opinion. Not a belief. It’s not even an alternate truth. It’s irrefutable scientifically proven fact. Busyness is the new laziness.
We call ourselves “busy.” We text, scroll, and email as we talk, work, eat, walk, and even drive. However, the truth is we’re taking longer to accomplish tasks. We’re making more mistakes and forgetting more. Most importantly, we aren’t enjoying what we do because we are never fully engaged.
Why is this happening so much? Because our brains naturally seek an escape from stress. So for a task that is boring, or burdensome (say finishing a project or waiting in line at Starbucks) sends a stress signal. “Find a distraction”, our brains say. Unfortunately, giving in becomes an automatic and often unhealthy response. Try mindfully watching others, and watch yourself. If there’s a lull of any kind everyone reflexively reaches for his or her phone.
A “FOCUSED” MIND IS A PRODUCTIVE MIND. This is an irrefutable scientifically proven fact. The human brain performs best when we work on a single task. We get more done and in less time. We make fewer mistakes and retain much more information. Best of all, we enjoy what we are doing because we’re engaged.
“A busy mind is not a productive mind.” Wise words from my yoga teacher this morning as 53 of us began class on a rainy Monday morning. “The best way to promote a calm, focused mind? Just a few minutes of seated stillness.” she said.
Meditation seems simple, but it’s hard to do alone. We do all of the work for you. We provide the program, the structure, an ideal distraction-free dedicated space, and most importantly, we bring it to work so you can take a 10-minute break. A healthier break. A break that will help you sharpen your focus and reduce stress.
Until we meet again…
